Yod-Normil – the iodine medicament used in diseases of a thyroid gland.

Indications

• Prevention of development of an iodine deficiency, including during pregnancy or feeding by a breast.
• Prevention of a recurrence iodine - a scarce craw after surgical removal and after completion of complex treatment by medicaments of hormones of a thyroid gland.
• Treatment of a diffusion euthyroid craw at children, including at newborns and adults.

Structure

• active ingredient: potassium iodide;
• 1 tablet contains potassium iodide 261.6 mkg that corresponds to 200 mkg of iodine;
• other components: lactoses monohydrate, cellulose microcrystalline, starch corn, silicon dioxide colloidal anhydrous, magnesium stearate, methyl cellulose.

Contraindication

• hypersensitivity to iodine or to one of other components of medicine;
• profound hyperthyroidism;
• manifest hyperthyroidism;
• iodide potassium use in the doses exceeding 150 mkg of iodine a day in a latent hyperthyroidism;
• iodide potassium use in doses from 300 to 1000 mkg of iodine a day in autonomous adenoma, the focal and diffusion autonomous centers of a thyroid gland, except for a preoperative yodoterapiya for the purpose of blockade of a thyroid gland according to Plummer;
• pulmonary tuberculosis;
• hemorrhagic diathesis;
• herpetiform dermatitis of Dyuringa-Brock (Dyuringa-Broca's syndrome).

Side reactions

At preventive use of iodide at any age and also at therapeutic use for babies and children of undesirable effects, as a rule, it is not observed. However in the presence of the big centers of autonomy of a thyroid gland and when prescribing iodine in daily doses of the exceeding 150 mkg completely it is impossible to exclude appearance of the profound hyperthyroidism.

from the immune system: reactions of hypersensitivity (such, for example, as the rhinitis caused by iodine, a bullous or tuberous yododerma, exfoliative dermatitis, a Quincke's disease, fever, an acne and a swelling of sialadens).

Route of administration

Prevention of an iodine deficiency and endemic craw (in cases when intake of iodine in an organism of the adult makes less than 150-200 mkg a day – it is necessary to apply his such quantity in addition:

• babies and children up to 12 years: 50-100 mkg of iodine a day;
• children of 12 years and adults: 100-200 mkg of iodine a day;
• period of pregnancy or feeding by a breast: 200 mkg of iodine a day.

Children and adults: 100-200 mkg of iodine a day. These recommendations have the general character and in each individual case it is necessary to consider surely the daily dose of iodine applied by the patient with food. These recommendations about a dosage are valid also for performing the subsequent treatment after the end of therapy of an euthyroid craw using left thyroxine.

Use of medicine for prevention has to last several years, and is frequent – throughout all life. therefore its sufficient receipt in an organism (200 mkg a day) is especially important. Due to the ability of iodine to get through a placenta and sensitivity of a fruit it is recommended to be applied to pharmacological active doses only in the recommended doses. It touches also the feeding period by a breast as concentration of iodine in milk is 30 times higher, than in blood serum. The exception is made by high-dosage iodic prevention which is carried out after nuclear and technical accidents.

Overdose

Overdose by iodine medicaments coloring of mucous membranes in brown color, reflex vomiting (in the presence in food of starch-containing components emetic masses has blue coloring), abdominal pain and diarrhea (even bloody diarrhea is possible). Dehydration and shock can develop. In rare instances took place formation of stenoses of a gullet. Lethal cases were observed only after use of abundance of iodic tincture (from 30 to 250 ml). Prolonged use can sometimes lead to appearance of the iodism which is followed by metal smack in a mouth, hypostasis and inflammation of mucous membranes, conjunctivitis, a gastroenteritis, bronchitis). Latent processes, such as tuberculosis under the influence of iodine can be activated. Development of hypostases, erity, pimpled and bullous rashes, hemorrhages, fever and nervous excitement can take place.

Therapy in acute intoxication. Gastric lavage by solution of starch, protein or 5% sodium thiosulphate solution before removal of all traces of iodine. Performing symptomatic therapy for the purpose of elimination of disturbances of water and electrolytic balance, and if necessary – antishock therapy.

Therapy in chronic intoxication. Iodine cancellation.
