Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics. Mebendazolum — anthelminthic broad-spectrum agent. it is active concerning enterobius vermicularis, ascaris lumbricioides, trichuris trichiura, ancylostoma duodenale, necator americanus, strongyloides stercoralis, taenia spp. or the mixed invasions.

Drug causes a degeneration of cytoplasmatic microtubules of helminth, thereby interferes with glucose utilization, reduces power exchange and causes death of a parasite.

Pharmacokinetics. After intake Mebendazolum in a small amount is soaked up in a GIT. Its insignificant part, getting to blood, for 90% contacts proteins of blood plasma and it is metabolized in a liver.

Indication

Enterobiosis, an ascaridosis, a trichuriasis, ankilostomidoz (a dochmiasis, a necatoriasis), a strongyloidosis, a teniosis, the mixed helminthoses.

Use

In an enterobiosis to adults and children is aged more senior than 2 years, irrespective of the body weight and age, appoint 1 tablet (100 mg) of Vermoxum once. in view of frequent reditsiv of an infection it is recommended to repeat treatment in 2 and 4 weeks

In an ascaridosis, a trichuriasis, an ankilostomidoza or the mixed helminthoses to adults and children 2 years, irrespective of the body weight and age are aged more senior, appoint on 1 tablet (100 mg) 2 times a day (1 tablet in the morning and 1 tablet in the evening) within 3 days in a row.

In a teniosis and a strongyloidosis the adult — on 2 tablets in the morning and in the evening (400 mg/days) within 3 days in a row; to children 2 years are aged more senior — on 1 tablet in the morning and in the evening (200 mg/days) within 3 days in a row.

during treatment by Vermoxum does not need observance of a special diet or use of depletive. It is possible to chew or swallow of tablets whole. For children of younger age the tablet before use can be pounded.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity (allergy) to any of medicament components, the period of pregnancy and feeding by a breast.

List of noted side reactions is classified by

by emergence frequency: very often (≥1/10), it is frequent (≥1/100 – 1/10), sometimes (≥1/1000 – 1/100), is rare (≥1/10,000 – 1/1000), is very rare (1/10,000), it is unknown (it is impossible to determine by available information).

from blood and lymphatic system: very seldom — a neutropenia.

from the immune system: very seldom — reactions of hypersensitivity, including anaphylactic and anaphylactoid reactions.

from central nervous system: very seldom — spasms, dizziness.

from a digestive tract: often — pain in the bottom of a stomach; sometimes — abdominal discomfort, diarrhea (at high extent of infection), a meteorism.

from skin and hypodermic cellulose: sometimes — rash; very seldom — a toxic epidermal necrolysis, Stephens's syndrome — Johnson, a dieback, a Quincke's disease, a small tortoiseshell, an alopecia, an itching.

Side reactions which were noted at prolonged use of medicament in the doses significantly exceeding recommended:

from a liver and biliary tract: very seldom — an abnormal liver function, hepatitis;

from kidneys and urinary tract: it is unknown — a glomerulonephritis.

Special instructions

Each tablet contains 110 mg of lactose of monohydrate therefore to patients with rare hereditary forms of intolerance of a galactose, insufficiency of lactase or a syndrome of glyukozo-galaktozny malabsorption it is not necessary to use drug.

possible communication between use of Mebendazolum and metronidazole and emergence of a syndrome of Stephens — Johnson / a toxic epidermal necrolysis. It is necessary to avoid simultaneous use of Mebendazolum and metronidazole.

Use during pregnancy and feeding by a breast. As Vermoxum is contraindicated during pregnancy, pregnant women or at suspicion on pregnancy should not use drug.

whether Mebendazolum gets into breast milk therefore do not recommend feeding by a breast at medicament use.

Children. Apply to treatment of children aged 2 years are more senior. Because of insufficient experience of use of medicament for children up to 2 years and also because separate messages about developing of spasms are received during use of medicament for children of this age group, it is necessary to appoint Vermoxum only if the available gelmintny invasion seriously affects their food status and physical development.

Ability to influence speed of response at control of vehicles or work with other mechanisms. Mebendazolum does not affect ability to control of vehicles and performance of the work connected with high risk of traumatism, but, considering a possibility of development of undesirable side reactions from nervous system, it is necessary to observe extra care.

Interaction

At co-administration Cimetidinum blocks metabolism of Mebendazolum in a liver with the subsequent increase in concentration of the last in blood plasma, especially at long-term treatment. in such cases the measurement of concentration for providing necessary doses of both medicines is recommended.

Overdose

At the patients taking the medicament in doses above recommended or treated for a long time, seldom noted an alopecia, reversible abnormal liver functions, hepatitis, an agranulocytosis, a neutropenia and a glomerulonephritis. such side reactions, except for an agranulocytosis and a glomerulonephritis, revealed also at the patients applying Mebendazolum in a standard dose (see side effects).

At accidental overdose can note spastic pain in the bottom of a stomach, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea.

Treatment: there is no specific antidote. In the first hour after overdose it is necessary to wash out a stomach, to accept activated carbon.

Storage conditions

At a temperature not above 30 °C.
