Executive director Florence Greenberg, the founder of Scepter Records (The Shirelles label), wrote the song which originally was called "Im Be True To You". In the lyrics there was no mention of the soldier. Tolko in The Shirelles studio gave to the song more exact heading which reflected its plot: love for the soldier, it promises to remain true to him while it is absent. Pesnya was let out as a single in 1962 and made great success, having headed the American Billboard Hot 100.
Pesnya was used in the movie "Wanderers" (1979) and "Given rise on the fourth of July" <(1989).br> Actress Brittany Murphy "The strong woman" sings the song in the movie of 2001.
Pesnya sounded in a TV series "11.22.63" <(2016).br> Plastinka practically in excellent condition.
