The Crystals – Uptown/What A Nice Way To Turn Seventeen (Philles Records – 102, USA, 1962).
"Uptown" was initially written for Tony Orlando, but Spector convinced authors of the song Cynthia Uell and Barry Mann to give the song to it. Spector changed notes and the text a little so that Barbara Alston from The Crystals could sing it. The lyrics about life in slums created "sophisticated and socially conscious" the song which laid the foundation for the subsequent rocknroll songs. Pereds
record "Uptown" La-la-la La-la-la Brooks replaced pregnant Mirna Dzhirrard. Spector invited Eva Boyd to the second double of "Uptown" after Cynthia Uell and Barry Mann convinced him to rewrite a vocal. After multiple rewritings of a vocal Boyd became angry on Spector that led to the fact that Spector released the original version with The Crystals.
In 1961 of The Crystals wrote down "Theres No Other (Like My Baby)" with the producer Phil Spector. Kogda The Crystals went to the record "Uptown" next year, the group did not receive the royalties from Spector for "Theres No Other" yet. After the record "Uptown" Spector also this time did not pay that forced group to fire their manager Benny Wells and to employ the new manager, Daniel Turner.
B 1962 of "Uptown" reached a maximum at No. 13 in Billboard Hot 100 and No. 18 in Hot R & B Sides. Plastinks
