The Byrds ‎ – Younger Than Yesterday (Columbia ‎ – CS 9442, USA, 1967).
"Younger Than Yesterday" is the fourth album of the American rock group The Byrds released on February 6, 1967 on Columbia Records. Gruppa continues to integrate elements of a psychedelia and jazz into the music, process which they began on the previous album "Fifth Dimension". Besides, the album presented group and the producer Gary Asher experimenting with new musical textures including wind instruments, the boomerang recorder effects and the electronic oscillator.
Alby also showed the bass player of group Chris Hillman as talented author of songs and vocalist. Do of "Younger Than Yesterday" Hillman obtained only one general authors credit with The Byrds, but in this album he is a composer of four songs and the coauthor of a song "So You Want to Be a Rock n Roll Star ". Hillmans compositions on an album showed to Dva influence country and - a western and, thus, can be considered as early indicators of experiments with a country rock which will be present to a greater or lesser extent at all the subsequent albums The Byrds.
After release an album reached 24 lines in a chart of Billboard Top LP and the 37th line in UK Albums Chart. It was preceded by the single "So You Want to Be a Rock n Roll Star" in January, 1967 which entered in top-30 Billboard Hot 100. Dva additional a single, taken from an album, "My Back Pages" and "Have You Seen Her Face", also were moderately successful in a chart of the singles Billboard. However any of the singles taken from an album did not get to charts of the United Kingdom. Though the album was substantially ignored by public during its release, the critical position over the years improved, and today "Younger Than Yesterday" is considered one of the best albums The Byrds.
