Model α99 II became the first full motion camera of Sony in which the system of focusing 4D of Focus is used. The hybrid phase system of autofocusing relies upon 79 points of the separate sensor and 399 points in the focal plane which form an array of 79 crosswise dots. According to vendor, this system of focusing differs in high accuracy and speed of work, and use of a translucent mirror allowed to provide the stable monitoring focusing with an opportunity to continuously observe an object in the view-finder at serial shooting or video filming.

In the camera uses the sensor of the image Exmor R CMOS with the return flare. Its permission is equal to 42.4 Megapixels. Basic range of photosensitivity is equal ISO 100-25600 expanded — ISO 50–102400. The sensor has no optical filter of low frequencies at the expense of what the smallest details and the thinnest textures are transferred.

New BIONZ X processor and a new design of a lock which resource is evaluated at 300,000 operations allow to conduct serial shooting with a speed up to 12 fps. The camera supports shooting of video 4K with the flow rate of 100 Mbps and compression according to the XAVC S standard. The vendor evaluates efficiency of a new stabilization system on five degrees of freedom of SteadyShot Inside at 4.5 steps of exposure.
