The Allmans had two exceptional lead players, two drummers, an other-worldly singer and they were--except for Jaimoe - a white band composed of hippie-haired early 20-somethings from the South, who played music inspired by black blues performers. Aside from Elvis and Jerry Lee Lewis, who both came about a decade earlier, The Stones and Yardbirds and Beatles were about the only white groups playing Chuck Berry, Little Richard and Muddy Waters. That is why the Allmans stood out.
