"Red poppies" is the most popular Soviet vocal and tool ensemble (VTE) existing in 1970 — the 1980th years under the leadership of Valery Chumenko. In 1986 it was officially renamed into the Poppies group.
Formation of collective began in the city of Makiivka of Donetsk region when musicians of the Donetsk musical school led by Arkady Haslavsky received the offer to create VIA at the large plant of the city of Donetsk. Ansambl received the name "Kaleidoscope", musicians got paid, being registered as workers at the plant. On February 20, 1974 offered musicians work in the Syktyvkar philharmonic hall of the Komi ASSR with the new name — VIA "Parma" (Taiga).
