Universal diffusers are one of the best solutions for reportage and portrait photography when using an external flash.
The diffuser is a rectangular softbox that is attached to the flash head.
The outer side of the softbox (light exit) has the shape of a rectangle with sides 17 x 15.5 cm and is made of white fabric, which is the flash light diffuser. The inner surface of the softbox is made of silver-colored material that reflects light. The outer side of the softbox is made of black dermantine that imitates leather.
The area where the flash is connected is made of 4 petals, forming the sides of a rectangular hole for the flash head. When mounted on the flash head, the blades cover the outer surface of the flash head. The sides where the petals adjoin the flash body have a rubberized surface with a relief that prevents them from sliding off the head.
To securely hold the softbox on the flash head, the petals are covered from the outside with a stretchable tape with a Velcro fastener.
Many photographers use a variety of techniques for shooting with flash - making reflectors from sheets of white paper, using bouncers, or using the method of reflecting light from the ceiling. A flash diffuser is more convenient because:

it has a compact shape and light weight - you can always take it with you when shooting outdoors or where it is not possible to use studio light;
easy to install;
softens the direct light flux - as a result of which overexposure on the subject is removed;
makes it possible to take vertical shots - removes hard shadows on faces that arise when using white paper or a bouncer;
makes it possible to work with flash “head-on” - using the capabilities of flashes to work in intelligent mode;
allows you to increase the surface area of ​​the light source - while the shadows of objects become much softer.
Note: Using any diffuser will reduce the light output from the flash. This must be taken into account when working with flash. The reduction in light power depends on the materials used in the diffuser and the level of illumination of the subjects may be reduced by 2 times, as well as the maximum distance for using the flash. Thus, using diffusers helps achieve softer shadows when shooting subjects in sunlight. However, when using diffusers at dusk or at night, reducing the flash output will not produce the same results as when shooting in the sun.
