Main physical and chemical properties: liquid from yellowish-brown till red-brown color, with a specific smell. In storage time of medicament the loss of a deposit is possible.

Propolis (bee glue) — waste product of bees, contains a number of biogenous substances: essential oils, mix of pitches, wax, flavonoids, flavones derivative of cinnamon acid. Shows antimicrobic, anti-inflammatory activity, accelerates regeneration processes (restoration of the struck fabrics).

Indication.

Microtrauma and superficial injuries of skin, mucous membranes, otitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, antritis, periodontal disease.

Contraindication.

Hypersensitivity to propolis or individual intolerance, especially at persons with diseases of a liver or kidneys, eczema, allergic reactions (especially on beekeeping products), bleedings from affected areas of skin and mucous membranes.

Interaction with other medicines and other types of interactions.

Route of administration and doses.

locally to adults and children 3 years in the form of appliques, rinsings, washings and also inhalations are more senior. in case of microtraumas and purulent diseases of skin to apply tincture of propolis with a tampon on affected areas 1–3 times a day. during treatment of external purulent otitis, after a toilet of acoustical pass to enter the tampon moistened with propolis tincture into an ear (for 1–2 minutes 2–3 times a day), or to dig in 1–2 drops of tincture of propolis 3–4 times a day. in case of an adenoid disease and pharyngitis to grease a mucous membrane 1–2 times a day 8–15 days. besides, in tonsillitis to apply tincture of propolis to preparation of inhalation alcohol aqueous solution in the ratio 1: 20.

1–2 inhalations a day, a course of treatment — 7–10 days. In case of chronic antritis to wash Highmore's bosoms with the solution prepared from tincture of propolis and 0.9% of solution of sodium of chloride (in the ratio 1: 10) 2 times a day within 2 weeks. In case of periodontosis to enter tincture of propolis in turundas into parodontalny pockets for 5 minutes. In case of superficial erosion and damages of a mucous membrane of an oral cavity the solution prepared from 15 ml of tincture of propolis on 1/2 glasses of warm water, 4–5 times a day within 3–4 days is applied to rinsing.

Overdose.

Symptoms: disappearance of appetite, decrease in the general tone of an organism, slackness, appearance of skin rashes.

Therapy: treatment by antihistaminic drugs.

Side reactions.

Possible side reactions:

• from skin and hypodermic cellulose: urticaria, a local itching of skin, local hypostasis, erubescence, blisters, vesicular rashes, dryness and cracks of skin, especially on brushes and other parts of a body, contacting to drug;
• from the central nervous system: dizziness;
• from the immune system: allergic reactions, including allergic dermatitis, hyperaemia, itching, rash, laryngospasm, asthma, Quincke's edema, fervescence;
• from digestive tract: nausea;
• from a respiratory system: asthma.
