  • Potassium iodide of the tab. of 250 mg No. 10

Potassium iodide – the iodine medicament used in diseases of a thyroid gland is applied to prevention during nuclear and technical accidents for the purpose of prevention of radiation.

Structure

  • active ingredient: Potassium iodide;
  • 1 tablet contains potassium iodide 250 mg (0.25 g);
  • other components: magnesium carbonate the main, Natrium thiosulfuricum, calcium stearate, silicon dioxide colloidal anhydrous.

Contraindication

Pulmonary tuberculosis, nephrite, a nephrosis, a furunculosis, acne rash, a pyoderma, hemorrhagic diathesis, a small tortoiseshell, hypersensitivity to iodine, hypersensitivity to any of medicament components. Profound hyperthyroidism, latent hyperthyroidism, hyperfunction of a thyroid gland, toxic adenoma, nodular or diffusion toxic craw, herpetiform dermatitis (disease of Dyuringa).

Side reactions

Allergic reactions: manifestations of an iodism: hypostasis mucous nose, urticaria, Quincke's edema, acute anaphylaxis, skin rash, itching.

from the system of blood: eosinophilia.

from a cardiovascular system: tachycardia.

from central nervous system: irritability, a sleep disorder, the increased sweating.

from digestive tract: diarrhea (at patients of 40 years).

Others: at high-dose therapy the craw and a hypothyroidism in some cases can develop.

At emergence of any undesirable phenomena to the patient needs to consult to the doctor.

Route of administration to appoint

by

At threat of receipt in a radioiodine organism for protection against radiation of a thyroid gland to adults and children of 2 years on 125 mg (1/2 tablets) of 1 times a day. A half of a tablet to crush and give with a small amount of sweet tea. To use medicament daily for disappearance of threat of intake of radioiodine in an organism.

Against the background of therapy at patients with a renal failure the development of a hyperpotassemia is possible

Feature of use.

Use during pregnancy or feeding by a breast

not to use medicament during pregnancy or feeding by a breast, except for cases of threat of receipt in an organism of radioactive isotopes of iodine. In such cases the decision on use is made by the doctor and along with potassium iodide it is necessary to appoint potassium perchlorate. At doses more than 300 mkg of iodine a day it is necessary to stop feeding by a breast.

Children

is not recommended to be applied to children up to 2 years.

Ability to influence speed of response at control of motor transport or other mechanisms

Any tests on studying influence on ability to run vehicles and other mechanisms were not carried out by

.

Overdose

In acute intoxication is observed by iodine reflex vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea (sometimes with blood), a color of mucous membranes in brown color. There can be dehydration and shock. The gullet stenosis is seldom noted. The chronic overdose leads to a phenomenon which is called an iodism: the metal smack in a mouth, swelled also inflammation of mucous membranes (rhinitis, conjunctivitis, a gastroenteritis, bronchitis); acne rash; dermatitis; hypostasis and pains of sialadens; hemorrhages, fervescence; irritability.

At prolonged use of high doses of medicament (more than 300 mkg/days) the development iodine - the induced hyperthyroidism is possible

(especially at patients of advanced age in the presence of a nodular craw or toxic adenoma).

At therapy by high doses of iodine (more than 1 mg/days) the craw and a hypothyroidism in some cases can develop.

Treatment. First aid consists in gastric lavage, intake of activated carbon. At use of a hemodialysis it is possible to reduce iodine level in blood plasma.

Interaction with other medicines and other types of interactions

At simultaneous high-dose therapy by iodine and kaliysberegayushchy diuretics is possible

development of a hyperpotassemia, with lithium medicaments – development of a craw and a hypothyroidism. Perchlorate and thiocyanate competitively slow down iodine absorption by a thyroid gland, and TSH – stimulates.

Quinidine: at simultaneous use the effect of quinidine on heart in connection with increase in potassium concentration in blood plasma amplifies.

Vegetable alkaloids and salts of heavy metals: simultaneous use can lead to formation of an insoluble deposit and complicate iodine absorption.
