Oilfish is the name of several species of fish that are similar to each other. Their peculiarity is their unusually high taste.

Externally, butterfish resembles tuna. It is a representative of the serpentine mackerel. The average size of the fish is 70 cm, weight is up to 5 kg. Some individuals are enormous in size and reach up to 50 kg.

Butterfish is pelagic. This means that it lives in the water column, in open spaces. It rarely swims to the shore, only during the spawning period. Lives in moderately warm waters of the World Ocean. The exception is the Indian Ocean.

This fish is not caught on an industrial scale, because... it is quite rare. Mostly caught as bycatch.
