Vinyl album Led Zeppelin - Coda (Swan Song ‎ – 79. 0051-1, Germany, 1982). Etos
ninth and latest studio album of the British rock group Led Zeppelin released on November 19, 1982 by Swan Song label two years later after the group ceased to exist as a result of the death of the drummer John Bonham.
Album represents the collection of the compositions which are written down at different times during the period from 1970 to 1978 with additional parties of Page who was an initiator of release of an album.
Guitarist and the producer of group, Jimmy Page, explained that a part of arguments releasing this album, is connected with popularity of informal butleg of Led Zeppelin which continued to extend between fans of group:
"was released by "Coda", generally because there were many butleg. We thought: "Horosho, if there is such great interest, then we can give our other studio recordings". "
At the same time, according to the book "Hammer of the Gods", the group had a debt to Atlantic Records on release of one more album. Poe to the contract musicians had to record 6 albums with a label, but made only 5 as further they based an own label of Swan Song in 1974. So, the album "Coda" can be considered as performance of contractual obligations.
Word of "code" is a musical term which means the possible additional section at the end of musical composition which does not depend on the main part. Therefore this name was suitable for an album better. They say that it was offered by John Paul Jones.
Album opens "We’re Gonna Groove" which was written down in Morgan Studios in June, 1969. It could also be heard on January 9, 1970, at a concert in Royal Albert Hall. In that version the original guitar parties were replaced.
"Poor Tom" is written down in operating time over "Led Zeppelin of III". However concerning drum party there were some misunderstanding. It sounds as a metal ring, and fans were surprised whether really the song so came to the end during the session to "Led Zeppelin of III", or specially so edited it for "Coda".
"I Cant Quit You Baby" is taken from the same concert, as "We’re Gonna Groove", but is designated as the rehearsal version. It is edited so that to get rid of noise of crowd on record and full feeling of "live" record; the beginning and the end are cut out as well as a middle part of composition. Sounds of crowd are muffled at multithreaded records of soundtracks as well as for "We’re Gonna Groove".
"Walters Walk", written down in 1972 in operating time over "Houses of the Holy" though certain disputes on record of a vocal of Robert Plant continue (most likely it was written down or imposed later; it is considered that it is written down in the early eighties, perhaps directly in operating time over "Coda", even guitar parties in it are similar on tonality to "We’re Gonna Groove").
"Ozone Baby", "Darlene", and "Wearing and Tearing" — songs from sessions for an album "In Through the Out Door". Though the sound of percussions is written down with a big echo.
"Bonzos Montreux" is drum solo, written down by John Bonham in 1976 in the Swiss Montreux. Page added electronic effects to it.
Album has rather simple cover, in comparison with the previous works of group. On the face of an envelope the name of an album and the performer, on the back party the list of songs and the photo of fields in deserts of the Arab countries is specified.
Inside of an envelope contains a selection of photos of members of the group from the first days to last year of existence of Led Zeppelin. More photo on the right side most likely is made a day before the concert in Nebwort in 1979. However, participants of group remained are dissatisfied with the photo.
