As one of two great albums that Derek And The Dominos recorded in the early-1970s, high-octane live album ‘In Concert’, which first came out in 1973, was a true instant success, then 21 years later, it was released in a complete format, this time under a different title and a distinguished CD cover. When you look at the CD liner notes, Anthony DeCurtis calls Live At The Fillmore’s digitally-remixed version of Derek And The Dominos ‘In Concert’, with five previously unreleased live performances and two tracks that first appeared on the career retrospective 2-CD boxed set Crossroads. We do know that changing the original album’s title-cover during it’s expanded or deluxe CD reissue is never to be tolerated, we would finally come to believe that this live hit did indeed deserve to get this type of re-mastered editing in a different manner (Remember: This cannot happen to any classic album which gets the CD expanded or deluxe treatment!). Featuring its greatly enhanced track starting off with Got To Get Better In A While, nearly complete live set proceed well on other classics like Key To The Highway, Blues Power, John Mayall’s Have You Ever Loved A Woman, Bottle Of Red Wine, Tell The Truth, Presence Of The Lord, Jimi Hendrix’ Little Wing and Let It Rain until ending with Clapton’s signature song with Robert Johnson’s Crossroads. Even when the same live recordings are heard or used on Live At The Fillmore as on In Concert, as noted to the remixes or been remixed and, as noted, re-edited, of this live performance that was recorded live at New York’s former Fillmore East in October of 1970, which was part of The Dominos’ only American tour, as five songs run for over ten minutes, and Live At The Fillmore showcases Clapton’s guitar playing with skill and provocation and its stark combination of blues-rock and rock that is done with unique style.
