Mans World is the sixth studio album by American hard rock band Mountain, and their first album in over 10 years. It features a cover of the James Brown song "Its a Mans Mans Mans World", from which it takes its title.
Sure, MOUNTAIN had its heyday back in the early 1970s, and most CDs after Flowers of Evil which bare the MOUNTAIN moniker are primarily Leslie West solo albums... so what? The CD Mans World is a solid rock-blues effort. Leslie and Corky Laing are back, assisted by Mike Clarke on bass, he also co-authors with Corky several of the best tracks and all three share in vocals. The track "I Look" here with 2 mixes is, conjuring up the best moments of Climbing and Nantucket... The vocals and guitar-drum-bass interplay sound like Jack Bruce/Cream era Disraeli Gears!! The overall mood is drenched in tones of blue but the sound is solid rock which swirls between Wests "from-the-gut" guitarwork with acoustic florishes, and the various vocal/musical contributions of his bandmates where West gives them center stage. The HDCD enhancement rips through speakers in ultra fidelity. Highly recommended and a powerful addition to the MOUNTAIN/Leslie West canon.
