Pharmacological properties

Xylomethazolinum is a sympathomimetic agent who influences α-adrenergic receptors.

Drug causes narrowing of nasal blood vessels, reducing a rhinedema, adnexal bosoms, improving thereby nasal breath at congestion of a nose and adnexal bosoms.

At topical administration medicine is practically not absorbed, concentration of xylomethazolinum in blood plasma is so small that it cannot be defined by modern analytical methods.

Indication

Symptomatic treatment of congestion of a nose at cold, hay fever, allergic rhinitis, sinusitis. for simplification of outflow of a secret at diseases of adnexal bosoms of a nose. as auxiliary therapy at average otitis (for elimination of hypostasis of a mucous membrane). for simplification of carrying out a rinoskopiya.

Use

Before introduction of medicine carefully a nasal cavity.

Evkabal of a drop and Evkabal spray. To adults and children 12 years 2–3 times a day on 2–3 drops or to 1 injection in each nasal course are aged more senior. Duration of treatment depends on a course of the disease and should not exceed 10 days in a row.

Evkabal of a drop for children. To children at the age of 2–5 years to use medicament under observation of adults on 1–2 drops in each nostril 1–2 times a day.

to Children at the age of 6–11 years to use medicament under observation of adults on 2–4 drops in each nostril 2–3 times a day.

more than 3 times a day.

Duration of treatment depends on a course of the disease and should not exceed 7 days in a row.

Contraindication

Hypersensitivity to any component of medicine, dry inflammation of a mucous membrane of a nose (dry rhinitis), sharp coronary diseases, a hyperthyroidism, closed-angle glaucoma, transfenoidalny hypophysectomy and surgical interventions with exposure of a meninx in the anamnesis. the accompanying treatment by Mao's inhibitors and during 2 weeks after the termination of their application.

Side effects

from the immune system: reactions of hypersensitivity, including a Quincke's disease, rash, the naggers.

from nervous system: headache.

from an organ of sight: passing deterioration in sight.

from heart: irregular or cardiopalmus.

from respiratory organs, a thorax and mediastinum: dryness or discomfort from a mucous membrane of a nose, burning sensation.

from a GIT: nausea.

General violations and reactions in the injection site of medicine: burning in the site of application.

Special instructions

Drug evkabat drops and evkabat spray do not apply at children aged up to 12 years; evkabat drops for children — do not apply at children under 2 years, recommend application for children at the age of 2–11 years only under supervision of adults. it is longer not necessary to use medicament 7–10 days in a row. long-term treatment by medicine can cause converse effect. patients who at use of adrenergic medicines have strong reactions which are shown in the form of insomnia, dizziness, a tremor, arrhythmia, increase hell should appoint medicine with care.

should not exceed the recommended medicine dose, especially at treatment of children and elderly people.

with care medicine to patients with cardiovascular diseases, AG, sick diabetes, with diseases of a thyroid gland, with the complicated urination.

to avoid infection.

Use during pregnancy and feeding by a breast. Drug cannot be used during pregnancy because of vasoconstrictive action.

no proofs of manifestation of side effect. It is unknown whether xylomethazolinum gets into breast milk therefore the women nursing should show care. Drug can be used only when the expected advantage for mother exceeds potential risk for the child, according to the recommendation of the doctor.

Fertility. Appropriate data on influence of medicine on fertility are absent. As system exposure of xylomethazolinum of a hydrochloride very low, probability of influence on fertility extremely low.

Children. The medicament Evkabal of a drop and Evkabal spray should not be applied to treatment of children aged up to 12 years.

to children at children under 2 years. Use of medicine for children at the age of 2–11 years is recommended only under supervision of adults.

Ability to influence speed of response at control of vehicles or work with other mechanisms. Usually medicine has no or has the minimum impact on ability to steer vehicles or to work with mechanisms.

Interaction

Xylomethazolinum can influence effect of some antihypertensive drugs, such as blockers of β-adrenoceptors, and some antidepressants, such as tricyclic or tetracyclic antidepressants.

Overdose

Considerable overdose or accidental oral administration of medicine, especially at children, can cause hypoactivity, a disorder of vision, a headache, excitement, violation of a warm rhythm, insomnia, respiratory depression, sometimes — a loss of consciousness. prolonged use of medicine can lead to the secondary rhinitis resistant to treatment.
