The Book of Taliesyn - the second studio album Deep Purple, is written down by original structure. Left in the USA in October, 1968, and in England in June, 1969. Republished in 2000 with five bonus tracks. Disks
is called in honor of "the Book by Taliyesin" — the Welsh manuscript of the first half of the 14th century including the oldest Welsh poems, many of which are attributed to the poet Taliyesin (6th century).
Cover of an album was drawn by the illustrator John Vernon Lord (namesake of the keyboard player John Lord).
In Anthem composition, since temporary mark 2:56 (2 minutes 56 seconds from the beginning of a soundtrack), is quoted the organ fugue by Bach.
Composition of Exposition is based on allegretto from the Seventh symphony by Ludwig van Beethoven and also on the overture imagination "Romeo and Juliette" by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky.
In composition of River Deep, Mountain High is used a melody of the first fragment of the symphonic poem "Tak Spoke Zarathustra" of the composer Richard Strauss.
