"I Fought the Law" — the song is written in 1958 by Sonni Curtice. In 1959 it was a part of The Crickets group, having replaced in it on a guitar of the died Buddy Halle. At first it was published by this group on an album of 1960 "In Style with the Crickets", and next year was on the party B their singles "A Sweet Love". Poe of radio the song was not played at all.
B 1962 the song was recorded by Paul Stefen and the Royal Lancers from Milwaukee. Pesnya became a regional hit, but did not get to national American charts.
B 1969 the song was recorded with the group by Bobbie Fuller. On published it on own label of Exeter (which was in El Paso). Work supported with Eto group in the status of a local celebrity in the western Texas, was one of their biggest regional hits. Later Bobbie Fuller decided to pass
Del-Fi Records major label (Mustang Records label sublabel). There they began to release records under the name of Bobby Fuller Four. The group had small hits, and for the first time it got to the top ten in the USA in 1965 just with the I Fought the Law song which they on a new label rewrote twice (for a single and for an album).
B 2004 the Rolling Stone magazine placed the I Fought the Law song performed by The Bobby Fuller Four group on the 175th place of the list "500 greatest songs of all times".
