Greatest Hits — the collection of the best songs of the Swedish ABBA group published in 1975. The release of Greatest Hits followed in November, 1975 in Scandinavia for the purpose of development of success of other combined albums of group released in Europe such as ABBA’s Greatest Hits in France and The Best Of ABBA of the West German label Polydor. Alby became the best-selling in Britain in 1976 and the second in commercial success for group in this country. Its success repeated Greatest Hits Vol. 2, released in 1979.
Despite the stated loud name of compilation, only a half of tracks became the real singles hits in the leading charts. Odna from songs, "Dance (While The Music Still Goes On)" as a single did not leave in general and therefore could not receive any "hit" with e r t and f and k and c and and. "Waterloo", "SOS", "Mamma Mia" and, later, "Fernando" got in top-10 Britain and other countries, but only the first composition got to American top-10; "I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do" became top-10 a hit in some countries. top-20 a hit in the USA, but hardly got in top-40 the British charts; "Honey Honey" got only in top-20 the leading charts. It is symbolical that in Australia where the group reached considerable number of positions No. 1, the release of Greatest Hits would become senseless because of success of local compilation of The Best Of ABBA because of what the release followed only in many years. Nevertheless, the release of the official collection of the best hits was incredibly successful. Even the Rolling Stone magazine, one of the most furious critics of ABBA in the USA, was expressed after release after a while: "Everyone who, having listened to this record five a time in a row, will not begin to sing to himself under a nose a half of melodies — the robot. "
