Release of Gracias Por La Música was caused by unexpected rise of popularity of group in the Latin American countries, such as Mexico and Argentina, after release of Spanish-language versions of Chiquitita and I Have a Dream songs. Members of the group decided to record eight more songs in Spanish and to release a full-scale album especially for this market. Dl of the translation of lyrics Buddy and Mary McCluskey working at RCA Records studio in Argentina were invited. Record of tracks took place in January, 1980 at Polar Music studio; with pronunciation the leading vocalists Agneta Feltskug and Anny-Fried Lingstad were helped by the Spanish-Swedish journalist of Ana Martinez.
Soundtrack of songs some of which treat 1974 — 1975 were subjected to some changes for the purpose of giving of more modern sounding to them. The audioengineer of group Michael Tretov directed works.
Gracias Por La Música was released on CD in 1986 in Japan and in 1993 in Argentina by Polydor label. Alby it was not known in other countries to an exit of compilation of ABBA Oro: Grandes Exitos (1993) which included all tracks Gracias Por La Música.
